A 14-year-old boy from East Bend is preparing to have the time of his life, thanks to the philanthropic efforts of a local fraternity.
Marshall Baker, who suffers from a neurodegenerative disorder and is recovering from a recent kidney transplant, will be setting sail soon for his Disney Cruise to the Bahamas, thanks to the Appalachian State University Chi Omegas.

Traveling to Pigeon Forge, Tenn., to meet Dolly Parton provided the perfect gift for 14-year-old Brooke.
Her mother, Wendi, called it a trip Brooke will never forget thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which granted the wish and sent the family to Dollywood on March 20.

Leukemia & Lymphoma
Boy and Girl of the Year are named by Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Today Hamilton is in remission from Acute Lymphoplastic Leukemia and hopes that with your help, other people will not have to endure what he went through. Audrey is in remission as well. Both of these children never lost their will to fight and are an inspiration to us all.

A special “Hollywood” send-off for Lucas, complete with a limo ride and a red carpet entrance, was held at the N.C. Zoo Saturday afternoon.

Ava, who suffers from spinal muscular atrophy, was the guest of honor at the princess-themed “wish” party. The Wake Forest chapter of Chi Omega, working with the local Make-A-Wish organization, raised the funds to grant Ava’s wish to go to Disney World with her family. The students planned the event on campus as a prelude to her weeklong Disney adventure.

David and Crystal Voss know what it feels like to be on the receiving end of Make-A-Wish America. In 2012, their son Zachary was granted a wish to visit Disney World.
In June, Crystal will participate in the Trailblaze Challenge, a trek along the Bartram Trail through western North Carolina, to raise $2,500 for Make-A-Wish Central and Western North Carolina. Voss will hike 24.1 miles of the trail, which crosses significant peaks.
