Go cheer on local creatives as they carve away at the eighth annual GUTS competition benefiting Make-A-Wish. At GUTS, you’ll see pumpkins carved into everything from hamburgers to Hugo the Hornet — or whatever teams can create in 90 minutes!

The Carolina Panthers got a new coach on Friday in 7-year-old Aiden. Aiden took over for Braylon Beam, an honorary coach for the past season through Make-A-Wish Central & Western North Carolina. Braylon passed the torch to Aiden, who had an introductory press conference in the hour before the start of practice.

Coming off a record-setting year in funds raised for charity and number of participants, the Pitchin’ for Wishes Cornhole Tournament benefitting Make-A-Wish® Central & Western North Carolina returns to Freedom Park Sept. 17. Now in its ninth year, the event surpassed the $1 million mark last year and has set records as the largest cornhole tournament in the world.
