Local disc golf tournament, Chains for Wishes, started by Asheville resident James Mayfield, had its most successful turnout to date, selling out and raising $6,200 on Saturday, August 3 to benefit Make-A-Wish Central and Western North Carolina. Ninety-six disc golfers played two 18-hole rounds, with the winning team receiving gift certificates for discs. In addition to registration fees, the event raised vital funds for wishes by hosting several raffles, a “closest to the pin” challenge, and held an after party at Hickory Tavern with a silent auction. And, local presenting sponsor BT’s Burger Barn was instrumental in the events success.
Six-years strong, Chains for Wishes generous donation represents the funding of an entire wish that will be granted to a child in the community, at an average cost of $6,000 per wish, support is critical. A wish come true empowers children with life-threatening medical conditions to fight harder against their illnesses. When they are granted a wish, they get more than just a great experience for the day, two days, or a week. That experience improves the quality of life for them and their entire family.
