Help celebrate the season of giving at Macy’s fifth annual National Believe Day. The heart of Macy’s “Believe” campaign in support of Make-A-Wish, National Believe Day aims to inspire Americans to spread the spirit of generosity throughout the holiday season.
12-year-old Walasia’s wish to go on a Caribbean cruise will be coming true this weekend on December 8th. In order to prepare for her wish, Macy’s at SouthPark mall has generously donated a mini-shopping spree to help Walasia pick out new swimsuits, hats and sundresses to prepare for her week in the tropical sun. Walasia will be arriving at 4:00 p.m. bringing letters from her school and community to add to the Believe mailbox. She will then receive a make-over at the Clinique counter and a session with a personal shopper to pick out essentials for her cruise.
In celebration of National Believe Day, on Friday, Dec. 6 only, for every letter received in-store, Macy’s will donate $1 to Make-A-Wish, up to $1 million, above the existing $1 million goal. This new element of Macy’s Believe program has the potential to make National Believe Day a million-dollar day, and help generate up to $2 million in total for Make-A-Wish during this year’s campaign.
Macy’s “Believe” campaign invites children of all ages to mail their letters to Santa at their local Macy’s in the red Santa Mail letterbox. For every letter mailed, Macy’s will donate $1, up to $1 million, to Make-A-Wish.
In addition to Walasia’s wish, Macy’s will help Make-A-Wish grant more than fifty special wishes across the country to create a day of “Wishes Across America” for children with life-threatening medical conditions.

Make-A-Wish® grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. According to a 2011 U.S. study of wish impact, most health professionals surveyed believe a wish-come-true can have positive impacts on the health of children. Kids say wishes give them renewed strength to fight their illnesses, and their parents say these experiences help strengthen the entire family. Based in Phoenix, Make-A-Wish is one of the world’s leading children’s charities, serving children in every community in the United States and its territories. With the help of generous donors and more than 25,000 volunteers, Make-A-Wish grants a wish somewhere in the country every 38 minutes. It has granted more than 240,000 wishes since its inception in 1980; nearly 14,000 in 2013 alone. Visit Make-A-Wish at wish.org to learn more.
