Gastonia, NC – A weeklong getaway trip to “the happiest place on earth” is exactly what two-year-old Sammy needed. After a life-long battle with Wilms’ Tumor, Sammy needed a vacation to relax and reconnect with his family, and what better place than DisneyWorld®! He is a brave little boy who enjoys building blocks, McDonald’s Happy Meals and the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. When given the opportunity to have his wish granted, he knew it was to meet his beloved Mickey in person.
In October 2013, Sammy and his family stayed in the Give Kids the World Village™ and enjoyed young-aged, family-oriented rides in the park. He met many Disney personalities, but the most exciting of all was the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse characters. “There were so many special moments during Sammy’s trip,” his mom said. They were so happy to see their preschooler run around in pure fascination of the magical place where they spent their vacation.
Robin Smith-Salzman, the 2013 W.I.S.H. Society’s Woman of the Year, raised over $21,000 in the W.I.S.H. Society’s inaugural year to help grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. Robin was matched with Sammy and two other families to represent the wishes she helped to grant with the funds she raised. During the welcome back party she threw for Sammy and his family, Robin discovered that Sammy’s favorite football team was the Pittsburg Steelers. So, because her generosity, she offered Sammy and his family an all-inclusive football game experience. Sammy’s family will have VIP treatment as they watch the Steelers and Panthers play on September 21 at 8:30 p.m. in a press box.
