Greensboro, NC – Wish kid Danny and his family will be traveling with Make-A-Wish to Barcelona to meet his idol, FC Barcelona player Lionel Messi. Danny and his family will be traveling overseas during the end of October to spend six days exploring Barcelona, attending soccer games and of course meeting Lionel Messi.
Fourteen-year-old Danny was diagnosed with Lymphoid Leukemia in August 2013. This type of cancer starts in the white blood cells in the bone morrow and can quickly spread to other parts of the body including the lymph nodes, liver and spleen. He, and his 15-year-old brother David, are very excited to meet the Ballon d’Or award winner and hopefully pick up some pointers from the professional athlete.
Messi is Danny’s role model. He wants to play soccer professionally and emulate the humility he has witnessed Lionel portray in the media. When Danny is on the field playing, he tries to channel his inner Lionel and be the best player he can be. Danny’s school and classmates have been very supportive during his treatment and are excited to see his wish come true.
The family has agreed to interviews before the wish trip. If you are interested in speaking to the family, please contact Stephanie Leeper at (704) 339-0334, x226, or firstname.lastname@example.org to set up an interview. Interviews after the trip will need to be coordinated through our National Office and could take 4-6 weeks for photo approval.
