Pitchin' For Wishes Cornhole Tournament Aims to Top $1 Million For Charity

Date

July 08, 2015

CHARLOTTE, N.C., July 8, 2015 … Now in its eighth year, the Pitchin’ for Wishes Cornhole Tournament aims to surpass the $1 million mark raised for charity this year. The Roby Family of Companies and Harris Teeter will co-host the Sept. 19 tournament at Freedom Park to benefit Make-A-Wish® Central & Western North Carolina.

“Pitchin’ for Wishes has grown every year,” said Trent Haston, president and CEO of the Roby Family of Companies. “It’s a team effort to reach our fundraising goal, and we really need cornhole competitors, event volunteers, donations from the community and additional sponsors to make it happen.”

The annual cornhole tournament has raised more than $800,000 for local charities the past seven years, and has set records as the largest cornhole tournament in the world.

The family-friendly tournament features an NCAA bracket-style cornhole competition, food, music, mascots from Charlotte’s professional sports teams, a bouncy house and children’s play zone. One of the highlights of the event is the raffle, and this year’s prizes feature a set of tires, courtesy of Continental Tire; Wolf Gourmet convection oven and set of pots and pans, both courtesy of Sub-Zero Wolf; two Frigidaire blenders and a coffee maker, both courtesy of Plaza Appliance Mart; and more.

“You can’t beat a fun afternoon at the park, while raising money for a good cause,” added Haston.

If you’re interested in playing cornhole, the registration fee for a two-person team is $60. The first-place team wins $1,000, the second-place team wins $500, and every participant gets a T-shirt and event goodie bag. If you prefer to watch, Pitchin’ for Wishes is free for spectators and offers activities for all ages.

There are other ways to get involved and help make the wishes of Charlotte-area children come true. Queen City Lumber, Pinnacle Roofing & Exteriors, Inc., and Skookum Digital Works are platinum sponsors of the event, and WBT 1110 AM is the official radio partner. Organizers are seeking more event sponsors. If interested, contact Christian McCall at (704) 401-0671 or Puevfgvna.Zppnyy@NaqerjEbol.pbz.

Pitchin’ for Wishes and Make-A-Wish will be featured on “At Home with Roby,” Sunday, Aug. 2 from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. on WBT 1110 AM.  Amy Brindley, president and CEO and Katie Barnhardt, program director, of Make-A-Wish Central & Western North Carolina, will join hosts Trent Haston and Ashley Davis, president of Roby Realty, for this special edition of the radio show airing each Sunday at 9 a.m.
