“She’s the bravest girl I know.” This sweet sentiment comes from Abigail’s older brother after witnessing her go through years of treatment.
Many kids that have life-threatening medical conditions go through treatment for a specified period of time, overcome their illness and go on to live happy, healthy lives with little or no complications. This is not the case for wish kid Abigail. She was born with a skeletal disorder that has left her with childhood memories of multiple surgeries and many trips to the hospital.
Abigail has spent many nights and long days at the hospital battling through her diagnosis – thankfully, Abigail is an extremely lucky girl and has always been surrounded by a loving and supportive family. Along with her love of shopping, her family, Taylor Swift and all things pink she has remained positive and courageous during her time away from school and friends.
Although it was a tough decision, Abigail decided to spend a relaxing and fun-filled week at Disney World® with her family. The trip started with a limo ride to the airport with her parents and brothers. After landing in Orlando, Florida, the family was taken to Give Kids The World Village® a 70 acre resort hosting wish kids from all over the world. Complete with whimsical venues resembling Candy Land, entertainment attractions and over 144 Villas, the village provides memorable and magical experiences to children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.
A fun-filled week of amazing adventure was just around the corner for this deserving family! A special excursion was planned to attend Discovery Cove for a day of swimming and interacting with dolphins. Abigail especially enjoyed her time in the water which helped provide relief from the daily discomforts she faces due to her medical condition. Abigail spent a full hour learning how to be a dolphin trainer and even ended the session with a kiss from her new aquatic friend.
Abigail’s wish gave her family the time to simply be together and enjoy the moment they were in – not having to worry about doctors, hospitals or upcoming treatments. Her parents were delighted to have their entire family together in one place at one time. Her brothers all agreed she deserved to have the best wish possible because of all the challenges she has endured and through it all her incredible spirit never wavers.
Her wish is an example of what our mission represents and the empowerment it can provide to children. We hope you’ve enjoyed these twelve remarkable kids and their personal stories of a how a wish impacted their lives.
We are already busy planning another 30 years of hope, strength and joy and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your continued support!
