“ We got to have fun spending time away from home together. Roxie also loved being the center of attention. We have lots of wonderful memories of our week in Vermont. ”

    • I wish to go to Smugglers’ Notch

At just 13-years-old, Roxie’s life is far from ordinary. She was diagnosed with a mitochondrial disease as well as epilepsy, both debilitating diseases that often prevent her from being able to interact with her peers and live the life most children her age get to experience. However, Roxie does not let her medical condition define her. She continues to be an upbeat, excited young girl who craves adventure.

For her wish, she wanted to go on an adventure of a lifetime by going to Smugglers’ Notch in Vermont to spend time with her family and enjoy all the fun activities that the resort has to offer. Smugglers’ Notch is dedicated to giving all families a once in a lifetime experience. With eight pools, four waterslides, two reservoirs and a number of endless outdoor adventures, it was sure to be an exciting week for Roxie and her family.

During Roxie’s wish trip, she took part in the Smugglers’ Notch Adaptive Program which provides therapeutic recreation for children and adults with special needs. All of the activities included were tailored to meet the needs of Roxie and her family and also gave her the opportunity to socialize with peers in a safe and fun environment. Roxie’s mom was so happy to see the continuous smile on her daughters face and says, “We had a wonderful time on our trip to Smugglers Notch and Vermont. We all felt so spoiled and taken care of the whole trip! We got to try lots of neat activities - Roxie even went down a few water slides and tried a euro bungie. She also really loved the view from our hotel room the first night over-looking Lake Champlain, all the water activities, riding in the golf cart around the resort, and the big bath tub in our last hotel.”

Roxie’s wish gave her and her family the opportunity to get away from their hectic lives and routine. Her mom sums up the experience perfectly saying,

“We got to have fun spending time away from home together.  Roxie also loved being the center of attention. We have lots of wonderful memories of our week in Vermont.”
