Learn more about how to engage with our chapter

What are we looking for in a volunteer?
We are looking for positive, outgoing and passionate individuals who want to make a difference in the life of a child.  It is important that individuals engaging with our chapter work well in a team environment, are open-minded, flexible and passionate about serving the needs of the families we are so humbled to work with. Submit your Make-A-Wish Engagement Interest Form.

What kind of commitment do we ask of individuals wanting to become engaged with our chapter?
We offer a number of volunteer roles that vary in the time commitment needed. We encourage you to look at our volunteer descriptions to learn more about our volunteer roles and see what may be the best fit for you. There are many different ways to volunteer with Make-A-Wish and all require different levels of time commitment. The majority of our roles, you can sign up as your schedule allows. When volunteering as a wish granter, there are a minimum number of wishes that we ask you to commit to each year. The timing of each wish experience can vary.

What are the different ways I can get involved with Make-A-Wish?
There are many ways to get involved, our most popular roles include but are not limited to, volunteering at special events, fundraising, working as an office volunteer, translating and wish granting. See descriptions here.

Why do I have to undergo a criminal background check?
Make-A-Wish volunteers are trusted to work directly with our wish families and to handle Make-A-Wish resources (including money or donated goods) as they arrange wishes or volunteer at events. For the protection of the wish families and Make-A-Wish itself, we require criminal background checks of staff and most volunteer positions every three years. All information in the application and any acquired through the background check will remain confidential and is used only for screening and placement purposes. The cost of the background check is $25.

Where will I be asked to volunteer? Our chapter covers 51 counties, and we ask all volunteers to consider volunteering in your area and beyond.
