On March 11, 2013 Callie’s wish came true. Callie, her mother, father, and her three older brothers made their way to Smugglers Notch Resort located in Vermont for a week. She got her wish to see lots of snow! Four-year-old Callie was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy which causes muscle damage and weakness, at a very young age. Callie is unable to walk or sit up on her own but she didn’t let this stop her from having the time of her life!
Upon arriving at Smugglers, Callie received a gift basket filled with Bert and Ernie dolls, her favorite celebrities. She and her family were also able to have ski and snowboarding lessons, have snowball fights and spend time together on a family vacation that was fully accessible for Callie. Callie’s mother said that Callie’s favorite part was going sledding and skiing with her family.
Callie is a smart and adorable little girl with such a pretty smile that lights up a room. Callie loves Sesame Street and gets excited the second you begin to talk about it. She is incredibly social, so she loves going anywhere and everywhere to interact with people. Her week at Smuggler’s was exactly what her and her family needed in the midst of everything they had been dealing with. Callie was able to get out, socialize, and have fun without worrying about being sick.
