FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Dec. 13, 2019
MATTHEWS, NC – Butler High School's Student Government Association (SGA) along with Butler staff, clubs, families and the Matthews community have reached their goal of raising $10,000 to support Make-A-Wish Central and Western North Carolina. These vital funds were raised through school activities including t-shirt sales and faculty members “Jeans for Wishes” campaign, which allows teachers to wear jeans on Mondays after they make a donation to Make-A-Wish. Butler High School is the first Charlotte Mecklenburg School to reach this incredible milestone. To celebrate, they will be hosting a send-off party on December 20, 2019 for 4-year-old Sophia.
Sophia, who is battling an autoimmune disorder will have her wish granted in February 2020 when she goes to Walt Disney World. As a way to get excited for the trip, Butler High School will be providing the royal treatment for Sophia and her family including a princess transformation and a life-sized game of Candy Land. She will even receive a carriage ride princess parade through the school before her party. Looking forward to the trip, her mom says, “For one week, Sophia will get to just enjoy life and be a completely normal healthy kid, free of life’s worries. I can’t wait to see the look on her face when she sees everything for the first time.”
WHEN: Friday, December 20, 2019. Media are encouraged to arrive at 1:15 p.m. for the parade, and are invited to stay for the send-off party beginning around 1:45 p.m. Please make sure you sign in through the front office.

Make-A-Wish® creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. We seek to bring every eligible child's wish to life because a wish is an integral part of a child's treatment journey. Research shows children who have wishes granted can build the physical and emotional strength they need to fight their illness. Make-A-Wish® Central and Western North Carolina serves 51 counties in North Carolina from Burlington (Alamance County) to the west. The chapter has granted more than 5,110 wishes since its inception in 1985 and will grant over 350 in 2019 alone. For more information, visit nc.wish.org or follow on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
