Wish kid Giulianna loves to share her outgoing, giggly, and sweet charisma with everyone she meets. With so much energy and excitement, it is hard to believe she was born with a congenital heart defect. Giulianna started her life with frequent heart catheterizations and repair surgeries at only three-days-old. Despite these treatments, she remains a loving and happy young girl, and continues to be a wonderful encouragement to those around her.
To Giulianna, a wish did not mean a trip to a luxurious location, a chance to meet a celebrity or anything extravagant. Instead, all Guilianna wanted was the love and companionship of a teacup Pomeranian puppy. The reason she wanted a puppy was that it meant comfort and happiness in times of sadness.
Giulianna, her mother, and her grandmother were all invited to the 2014 W.I.S.H. Society Luncheon in Charlotte. The family was honored to be surrounded by such wonderful women committed to the mission of Make-A-Wish® and had a wonderful time getting to know the Honorees. Then, during the ceremony, Giulianna received the surprise of a lifetime as her bow-adorned teacup Pomeranian puppy named Sophie was revealed on stage. It was love at first sight!
Giulianna squealed with joy as soon as she saw the puppy in the basket. Everything that a new puppy parent would need was donated by PetLand including: puppy pads, shampoo, treats, food, toys, a bed, and much more. Her family was also there to share the exciting experience. “With all this girl has been through this year, you can’t know what it means to see that smile,” said Giulianna’s grandmother about the special day. Giulianna knows that Sophie will be by her side no matter how tired she feels or how excited she is. Sophie is a reminder of the special day that the family shared, and continues to be a source of excitement, love and joy for the family each day.
